Jamey Shepherd
Wallace Community College-Dothan (WCCD) is honored to announce that WCCD student Jamey Shepherd has been named a 2025 New Century Transfer Scholar and will receive a $2,250 scholarship. Shepherd is the only student from Alabama selected for 2025.
New Century Transfer Scholars are selected based on their academic accomplishments, leadership, activities, and how they extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom. Nearly 2,100 students from more than 1,300 college campuses nationwide were nominated. Only one New Century Transfer Scholar is selected from each state.
The program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, Phi Theta Kappa, and the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).
“I am deeply honored to receive the PTK New Century Transfer Scholarship Award,” said Shepherd. “Being named Alabama’s top scoring student is a humbling milestone in my journey. This achievement reflects not only my hard work, but the support, inspiration, and legacy of those who paved the way before me.” In addition to PTK, Shepherd, a Hartford native, is a member of the All-Alabama Academic Team, and has made WCCD’s Dean’s List. Shepherd is also a member of the WCCD Diplomats, is Secretary of BSU, and is a Senator of the Student Government Association.
“Jamey has worked hard to position himself for several scholarships academically, and it has paid off,” said Daymesha Reed, WCCD PTK Advisor. “He is not only academically competitive but has also immersed himself in campus life. We are incredibly proud of all his hard work!”
“We congratulate Jamey for receiving this prestigious scholarship, and we are honored to partner with the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, The Coca-Cola Foundation, and the AACC to recognize these outstanding achievements,” said Phi Theta Kappa’s President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner. “Scholarship programs like this are integral for creating opportunities for two-year college students to succeed and for putting college completion within reach.”
