Wallace Community College-Dothan (WCCD) invites the public to join in celebrating its 75th Anniversary with “An Evening with Rick Bragg at Wallace Community College,” a special keynote address by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, journalist, and best-selling author Rick Bragg. This event will be held on the Wallace Campus in Dothan on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 7:00 pm in the Bencze Theatre in Cherry Hall.
Admission to this event is free and will include a book signing by the author. Bragg’s work will also be available for purchase at the event.
As a native of Alabama, Bragg recognizes the importance of community colleges and the opportunities they provide for students and for the workforce. As an advocate for education and as a premier storyteller for our state, his keynote address will serve to highlight the tremendous work occurring in education and to celebrate 75 years of WCCD’s incredible contributions.
Bragg is a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, journalist, and author of two bestselling memoirs, “All Over But the Shoutin’” and “Ava’s Man”. He teaches writing at the University of Alabama and pens a monthly column for Southern Living magazine. Bragg won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing in 1996 for his work at The New York Times.
In addition to his two best-sellers, Bragg’s works also include “The Prince of Frogtown”, “The Best Cook in the World”, and “Where I Come From”. Bragg has told stories and taught writing at Harvard University, the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, Boston University, the University of South Florida, and other colleges.
Prior to his public keynote address, Bragg will lead a joint professional development session for humanities faculty from WCCD, Enterprise State Community College, and LBW Community College. This session for Alabama Community College System faculty from those institutions further highlights Bragg’s commitment to education and the role of community colleges in Alabama.
The Rick Bragg keynote and professional development events are sponsored by The Paths for Success Foundation, a non-profit organization designed to assist Alabama citizens in obtaining skills, credentials, and/or certifications that lead to gainful employment. The Foundation provides opportunities by eliminating barriers that impact an individual’s ability to participate.
