Important Campus Notification

September is Workforce Development Month, and Wallace Community College-Dothan (WCCD) is highlighting the training opportunities available to help individuals gain new skills, advance in their careers and connect with employment opportunities in high-demand fields throughout the Wiregrass.
Through its Workforce Development division, WCCD provides flexible training designed to respond directly to the needs of students, job seekers, employers and the regional economy. Offerings include Fast Track workforce training, short-term non-credit courses, industry-recognized credentials, customized training for businesses and industries, and Skills for Success programs offered through the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Innovation Center.
“Workforce development is about creating opportunities for people while also strengthening the businesses and industries that drive our communities,” said Joe Johnson, WCCD Director of Workforce Development. “Whether someone is entering the workforce, changing careers or looking for new skills to advance in their current position, we want them to know there is a pathway available at Wallace. Our goal is to provide accessible, relevant training that leads to real opportunities for individuals and helps employers build the skilled workforce they need.”
Healthcare training is one of several areas available through Workforce Development. Current offerings include Certified Medication Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Dental Assistant, Eye Care Assistant and Professional Medical Coding. Wallace also offers workforce training in skilled trades and transportation, including CDL Training and Endorsements, Fiber Optic Training, Heavy Equipment Operator and Pre-Apprentice Electrical Lineworker.
Training opportunities extend beyond healthcare and the skilled trades. WCCD offers Food and Beverage Services, Online Career Training and Continuing Education, as well as customized Training for Business and Industry. Through partnerships with area employers, the College can help businesses address specific workforce needs, strengthen employee skills and prepare workers for changing technologies and industry demands.
“Workforce education does not look the same for everyone,” Johnson said. “For some, the right next step may be a short-term credential that helps them enter a career quickly. For others, it may be adding a new skill or certification that opens the door to advancement. We want Wallace to be a resource for people at every stage of their career and for the employers who depend on a well-trained workforce.”
Workforce Development Month recognizes the important role that education, training and industry partnerships play in building a strong economy. At WCCD, those efforts are part of the College’s commitment to creating pathways that connect people with opportunity while supporting the workforce needs of Dothan, Eufaula and communities throughout Southeast Alabama.
Individuals interested in workforce training do not have to wait for a traditional semester to begin exploring their options. With a variety of short-term and non-credit opportunities available, WCCD Workforce Development can help participants identify training that aligns with their career goals and take the next step toward the workforce.
