In recognition of February’s Black History Month, the BSU student organization at Wallace Community College-Dothan (WCCD) will sponsor a Black History Month Celebration on Friday, February 23, at 6:00 PM in the Bencze Theater located in Cherry Hall on the Dothan campus. The celebration will highlight the evolution of African American music with a program titled “The History of Our Music”.
Admission to the event is free and members of the public are invited to attend the celebration.
“African Americans played a pivotal role in our music today,” said Daymesha Reed, WCCD Student Life Coordinator. “BSU members along with local community psalmists will take us on an interactive exploration into the history of our music, from gospel to today’s music.”
“The History of Our Music” event will feature music genres from gospel to hip-hop, with performances by local choir Outstanding Children of Praise and BSU club members.
