In recognition of February’s Black History Month, the BSU student organization at Wallace Community College-Dothan (WCCD) will sponsor a Black History Month Celebration on Friday, February 21, at 6:00 PM in the Bencze Theater located in Cherry Hall on the Dothan campus.
The celebration will highlight the evolution of African American fashion with a program titled “The History of Our Fashion.” Admission to the event is free and members of the public are invited to attend the celebration. “We invite the community to come out and support Wallace’s BSU students, as we reflect on the rich history of our fashion, dance, and cultural achievements,” said BSU advisor and WCCD Mathematics Instructor Dr. Carla Cribbs.
“Black fashion and dance have always been powerful expressions of our culture, resilience, and creativity,” said WCCD student and BSU President Jada Hooks. “Through this year’s Black History program, we celebrate the rich history of our style and movement, recognizing how they have shaped and influenced the world. This event is not just about looking back – it’s about honoring our legacy and inspiring future generations to embrace their identity with pride.”
“The History of Our Fashion” event will feature a walk down fashion and dance memory lane, from the 1970s through the 2000s. WCCD BSU students will express their fashion and dance sense for each year. This event will also feature the dance group My Black is Golden.
