Wallace Community College-Dothan (WCCD) proudly announces that Betty Guilford has been named the College’s 2025–2026 Gold Star Teacher, an honor presented during the 2026 Alabama Association for Public Continuing Adult and Community Education (ALAPCAE) Conference in recognition of her outstanding service and dedication to Adult Education.

The Gold Star Teacher Award recognizes educators who make an exceptional impact on the lives of adult learners through excellence in teaching, encouragement, and student support. Guilford was selected for her commitment to helping students overcome obstacles, achieve their educational goals, and prepare for success in college and the workforce.

Known for her compassionate approach and genuine belief in every student’s potential, Guilford builds meaningful relationships that inspire confidence and perseverance. Even when students struggle to believe in themselves, she remains a steadfast source of encouragement, helping them stay focused on their goals and celebrating every milestone along the way.

Her engaging instructional style incorporates practical, real-world applications that make learning relevant and meaningful while equipping students with the skills they need for future success. Colleagues describe her as bringing a “motherly touch” to the classroom each day, creating an environment where students feel seen, heard, valued, and supported.

“Mrs. Guilford has an unwavering dedication to our adult learners and a profound commitment to student success,” said Barbara Steger, WCCD Director of Adult Education. “She genuinely believes in the potential of every student and refuses to give up on them, even when they have lost confidence in themselves. Through her ability to build meaningful relationships, she encourages students to persevere through adversity, set ambitious goals, and achieve them.”

Steger continued, “She consistently shows up for our students with encouragement, compassion, and steadfast support, and her impact extends far beyond the classroom. She is truly deserving of this recognition.”
