Wallace Community College-Dothan (WCCD) Adult Education will celebrate Adult Education and Family Literacy (AEFL) Week with two opportunities designed to promote adult education, literacy and lifelong learning in the Wiregrass: the See 4 Free Enrollment Event on Tuesday, September 29, and a community book drive taking place September 8–30.
AEFL Week is a national observance recognizing the important role adult education and literacy programs play in helping individuals strengthen academic skills, prepare for the workforce, pursue postsecondary education and create new opportunities for themselves and their families.
See4Free GED Practice Testing
WCCD Adult Education invites community members to take the next step toward earning their GED® credential at its See 4 Free Enrollment Event, scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Wallace Community College Adult Education Building #77, 1141 Wallace Drive, Dothan.
The event gives prospective and current adult education students the opportunity to take the GED Ready® Practice Test at no cost. The practice assessment helps participants determine their readiness for the official GED® examination and identify areas where additional preparation may be beneficial.
Participants who successfully pass a GED Ready® practice test will receive a free voucher to take the corresponding official GED® test subject, helping remove another barrier for adults ready to move forward toward completing their high school equivalency credential.
“Adult education creates pathways to employment, postsecondary education, increased confidence, and greater opportunities for individuals and their families,” said Barbara Steger, WCCD Adult Education Director. “The See 4 Free event is designed to remove barriers, help individuals understand where they are academically, and connect them with the support they need to continue moving forward.”
In addition to free GED Ready® practice testing, attendees can learn more about free adult education classes, academic preparation, enrollment services and available resources through WCCD Adult Education. Every participant in the See 4 Free event will also be entered into a drawing for a chance to win prizes.

Community Book Drive
As part of its AEFL Week celebration, WCCD Adult Education is also hosting a community book drive September 8–30 to support literacy and encourage reading among adult learners.
Community members are encouraged to donate books for the Adult Education Bookshelf, where students can select books for reading, enrichment and personal enjoyment. The initiative supports the program’s commitment to literacy and lifelong learning while expanding students’ access to reading materials.
“We want our Adult Education Bookshelf to become a resource that encourages students to read beyond the classroom,” Steger said. “Every donated book represents an opportunity for a student to discover something new, strengthen literacy skills, or simply experience the enjoyment of reading.”
Book donations may be dropped off at the Adult Education Building on the Wallace Campus in Dothan or at the Administration “A” Building on the Sparks Campus in Eufaula. Donors in the Dothan area may also schedule a book pickup.
For additional information about the services provided or to donate a book, contact WCCD Adult Education at (334) 556-2613 or visit the Adult Education Orientation and Enrollment page at: wallace.edu/programs-training/adult-education/orientation-and-enrollment/.
