Former Wallace Community College-Dothan baseball standout Kade Snell has been recognized for his impact beyond the baseball field, receiving the Corporal Paul Deguch Community Service Award from the South Bend Cubs.

Snell, who played for the Wallace Governors during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, continued his collegiate baseball career at the University of Alabama before being selected by the Chicago Cubs in the fifth round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft. He currently competes within the Cubs’ minor league system.

The Corporal Paul Deguch Community Service Award is presented annually on Fallen Heroes Day to a South Bend Cubs player who demonstrates outstanding community service. Sponsored by Midland Engineering, the award honors Corporal Paul Deguch, a City of South Bend police officer who was killed in the line of duty in August 1997.

Snell’s recognition reflects his commitment to making an impact both on and off the field and continues a tradition of Wallace student-athletes carrying the values of leadership, service and excellence into their communities.

“This recognition speaks not only to Kade’s success on the field, but also to his character, leadership, and commitment to serving others,” said WCCD Athletic Director and Baseball Head Coach Ryan Ihle. “We are proud to see a former Wallace student-athlete continuing to excel professionally while positively representing the values instilled during his time on our campus.”

The community service honor adds another accomplishment to Snell’s growing professional career while highlighting the character, leadership and commitment to others that extend well beyond athletics.
