• Writing (Next Generation Writeplacer): The Writing inventory measures your ability to write effectively, which is critical to academic success. You will be required to write a 300-600 word essay on the computer. Your score will be based on your ability to express, organize, and support your opinions and ideas.
• Math (Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics): The Math inventory consists of 22 multiple choice questions.  No calculator is allowed.

All first-time students, except those meeting one of the exemptions listed below:

• Any student with acceptable ACT score of 18 in English and ACT score of 18 in math or SAT score of 510 in English and SAT score of 510 in Math is exempt from taking the ACCUPLACER test.  However, students who wish to improve their course placement must take the state ACCUPLACER Inventory;
• Any student who has an associate degree or higher;
• Any student who transfers degree-creditable, college-level English or mathematics courses with a grade of “C” or better from an accredited institution;
• Any student who has successfully completed required developmental coursework at another Alabama Community College System college or an accredited college within the last three years.  Course descriptions from institutions outside of the Alabama Community College System must be reviewed;
• Any student who is enrolling to audit a course;
• Any student who scores 165 or higher on the GED College Ready exam;
• Any student who is enrolling for personal enrichment purposes only.

• There is no cost for the first time a student takes the ACCUPLACER Inventory.
• These items are not allowed:
  • Calculators
  • Textbooks
  • Notebooks
  • Dictionaries
  • Food
  • Drinks
  • Cellphones or any other electronic device
• Scratch paper and pencils will be provided.

Retrieve the Retake Payment Form from the confirmation email you received when you scheduled your exam, or email testing@wallace.edu to retrieve a Retake Payment Form.

1. Fill out form and take it to Business Office at the appropriate campus to pay the retake fee.
2. Return to the testing location with payment form and receipt.

Go back to your confirmation email (or any if you did not cancel and just scheduled for another day), scroll to the bottom after question 14. The next sentence says or starts with “For additional information…, check out your personal events schedule here (hyperlink in blue)”. Click on the word here, it will take you to the events page (events will be listed if you have any scheduled). If you have an event listed, click on the event, then click on cancel. If you do not have an event listed, at the very top of page you should see some dots or lines, click on the dots (Calendar version) or lines (Listing version), then click on the date desired, then click continue at the bottom of page, choose the exam(s) you want to take. Click register (it should register you for the exam without having to refill out the information again).

If you do not see your confirmation email, follow the steps below:

• Go to your email inbox and use the search feature to look for Wallace Community College. Your confirmation email should appear if it has not been deleted.
• If you deleted the confirmation email, register for a new date and email the Testing Center at testing@wallace.edu (Dothan campus) or testingsparks@wallace.edu (Sparks Eufaula Campus)
  to request removal of your previous reservation.

You will receive your placement results immediately, and you will receive a printout of your placement as soon as you finish the inventory.

The ACCUPLACER Student Portal allows you to review your test scores, reprint your Individual Score Report (ISR), and send your scores to other institutions. Note: If you did not enter an email address when you tested, you will not be able to access your report. Please contact the institution where you tested for your score report.

Wallace Community College seeks to encourage and to assist students in making appropriate preparations for taking college ACCUPLACER Inventory for the purpose of academic placement. Our hope is that all students are placed appropriately in the courses that will do the most to insure their academic success. Preparing well for the ACCUPLACER Inventory can enhance a student’s performance and thus proper academic placement. Higher academic placement can reduce the overall course load for students in their selected program, minimizing time and saving money.

Mathematics ACCUPLACER Inventory Preparation

Wallace Community College provides access to EdReady  for students to use in preparation for taking the ACCUPLACER Inventory for mathematics.  This link will allow students to register for and use a MOOC (Open Course) free of charge to address mathematical topics encountered when taking the ACCUPLACER Inventory.  Using this service will require a general registration procedure. To register use the “GET STARTED” button.  Please write down and keep your login information because Wallace Community College faculty and staff do not have the ability to help with forgotten login information.

Once registered, each student must first choose a goal for using EdReady.  Students should choose the goal labeled as, “Prepare for Common Placement Exams.”  Once there, select the “ACCUPLACER Prep – Complete Test” option.

Next, take the Initial Assessment. The results of this assessment will be used to determine areas of strengths and weaknesses before taking the actual ACCUPLACER Inventory. Students should use the available learning modules in order to improve their scores on the ACCUPLACER Inventory. The learning modules contain a number of valuable resources such as quizzes, video instruction, and short assignments to help students strengthen their mathematics skills.
